Christmas Decorating Ideas

It’s that time of year again! Oh yes, the time where you want to start decorating whilst listening to Christmas carols and enjoying a fire. (Or if you are like me and do not have a fireplace, the fireplace channel will be a sufficient replacement.)

Being that it is time to decorate, or at least close to it. You might be trying to find new ideas to make decorating easier, more affordable and maybe a little different this year.  See, for us, we usually use the same decorations in the same spot year after year, and while it still looks “pretty” and it’s still “fun”, I was finding myself less motivated to decorate this year. I wanted something different…. even just a little. This year we are on a very strict budget so I set to work figuring out some ideas… and I think I did ok!

Christmas Decorating Ideas

Home Made Touches:

We love home made touches in our house! In fact, there are many cute DIY Christmas Ornaments hanging on our tree! Not only do they add a personal touch, but they are also fun for the kids to participate in making. This year, I also made my own wreath! My DIY Christmas Wreath was very easy to construct and while it may not be the MOST extravagant thing you will ever see, it adds some Christmas to our door!

Change Your Theme:

Each year you can change up your theme. You can go with just a simple colour scheme change, change the theme from “Cutsie” to more “elegant”, or just add special touches to change the flow of your decor. You can even go as far as just using a different set of lights, or putting a small flasher bulb in to make the lights pulse. Repurposing items that you already has is also a great idea. Use your tree lights to decorate your window, and your window lights to decorate your tree for a simple change. Use a different colour tree skirt with a different pattern. You could also forgo the tree skirt all together and opt to use some cotton batting sheets to make a more outdoorsy snow like look. The sky is the limit!

Bring a Hint of Outdoors Inside:

If you have any pine trees (or any sort of other Christmasy Tree) on your property, trim a few branches and create centerpieces, or table decor using the branches. Not only will they look adorable but they will bring the scent of fresh pine into your home and save you a lot of money.

Finishing Touches:

Pay attention to the little details and ensure you use some Great Finishing Touches to your decor.Sometimes, it’s the little things like a DIY Christmas Wreath that make a huge difference in making your decorations flow together.

Happy Holidays and Enjoy your Decorating!

Great tips! Love the idea of brining the outdoors in with greens – nothing smells more like Christmas than evergreens 🙂

I love the idea of adding homemade touches to your decor. And I definitely need to get a new wreath for the door – the house just doesn’t look festive without it!

I think I might need to take that last suggestion. I love the smell of pine.
