I am Not a Good Mom- I Was Not a Good Mom Today.. Now What do I do?

Not a good momI was not a good Mom today.

I didn’t sleep well last night, the dogs kept me up and then my 6 year old peed the bed for the first time in ages, just as I drifted off to sleep. Instead of helping him and reassuring him it was OK. I cried as I remade his bed.

I was not a good Mom today.

I woke up at 5am and instead of making breakfast, I made myself a coffee, fed the dogs and let them out, did some laundry and then sat on the porch in silence, watching the world go by while I enjoyed my coffee and googled ridiculous videos on my phone while I waited for the kids to wake up.

I was not a good Mom today.

Instead of reading a book to my kids, I took extra long in the bathroom, having locked the door to escape, just so that I could take a breath for a second.

I was not a good Mom today.

Instead of speaking gently, I yelled when my daughter threw a doll across the room and shattered my vase.

I was not a good Mom today.

Instead of cleaning the house, I let the kids play outside while I sat on my front porch with the neighbours making jokes.

I was not a good Mom today.

Instead of cooking a healthy meal for my kids, I made them cheesy noodles and hot dogs and let them eat it on the floor like a picnic.

I am not a good Mom.

How many times, do we, as parents, go over every little thing that we did with our children all day, every day and feel guilty?

I don’t know about you, but I could literally have the BEST day in the entire world, slip up and raise my voice once and I guilt myself for the rest of the night about what a BAD mom I am.

Are we REALLY bad Mothers?

I would like to think we are not. However, our negative self talk doesn’t help either. Life is NOT perfect, there is NO such thing as a perfect parent and quite frankly beating ourselves down only makes it worse,

Your kids LOVE you. Even when you aren’t perfect! They love you when you are you! Just like you love them, even when you feel frustrated, or guilty.

Putting pressure on yourself won’t help.

Instead, take things into perspective, life isn’t a cake walk!

You’re a good Mother because you care so much, Get rid of Mommy Guilt, the only little things that matter are your children.
