Strong Female characters can play a very important role in your young child’s life. You see, gender stereotypes are a very real thing.
Studies have shown that gender stereotypes have an impact on girls at a young age, and that role models from the entertainment they choose can have a lasting effect. Rest assured, Netflix is home to a number of strong female characters who mean business!
Beyond showcasing strong females, the shows your family watches on Netflix can inspire in other ways. Have you ever watched TV with your kids? Like really watched with them – what they re-enact, what they sing along with or what they dance to? Netflix has kids and family programming that celebrates the arts and can inspire kids to bring the story to life through their own talents.
Netflix has titles that can serve for transitioning from an hour of TV time to your daughter asking for a book on HTML, to your son asking for piano lessons, or the kids asking to take a class at the community theater. Not sure where to start? Check out Netflix’s list of “Shows to Grow and Learn By,” to explore enriching titles as a family.
This day and age, who needs damsels in distress? Not us. That is why we LOVE watching shows like Julie’s Greenroom.
On March 17 Julie Andrews will be making her Netflix debut in Julie’s Greenroom. Brought to life by the Jim Henson Company, the enriching show advocates for the arts and the positive impact creativity can have on every child’s life. With an array of very special guests (Idina Menzel, Sara Bareilles, and Alec Baldwin to name a few), Julie’s Greenroom might be a show you turn on for the kids but find yourself staying until the final curtain call.
We really loved streaming “A Series of Unfortunate Events” on Netflix. We are huge HUGE fans of Violet and her quick thinking… and I mean the baby.. she can chew rocks. It’s hilarious… and inspiring.
I also really enjoyed “One Day at a time” as Elena is sure of who she is, and doesn’t mind standing up for it… and her family supports her. Great message there. GREAT message.
There are so many different things to stream on Netflix this month, that you are bound to be in binge watch Strong female love.
