The first step to helping Mom chill out is to figure out what level of stress is occurring in the home, do help evaluate your household stress level, we ask you a few questions:

  • Would your kids define you as calm, down to Earth and easy to talk to? Yes = Not So Stressful.

If your memory is failing you and the home is rarely full of any laughter, your kids are saying that you are hard to approach with conversations and they feel as if the home is full of tension; then you are a mom who is stressed out.

Tricks to Help Mom Chill Out

Learn to see the signs of stress in your home, when feeling as if you are about to explode, such as a high blood pressure moment or feel dizziness coming on, then take a moment to pause. Learn how your body responds to that overwhelming feeling and redirect yourself to pause in this moment before you speak.

While you are not able to avoid all stressors in your home, after all your job is being Mom, you can learn to allow yourself a timeout. Make a do not disturb sign and place it on the doorknob of a private location in your home, think of a space where you can close the door and be one with your own thoughts. Explain calmly to your family that you are stepping away for ten minutes, but will come back to the situation after you have had a moment to breath.

During a moment of high mom stress, the last thing on your mind is to bust out in laughter, we get it, but you need to learn to do just that! Laughter is the cure all for nearly any stressful situation and can help to break the tension in the air with your kids and spouse during a time of high stress. Instead of lashing out in your immediate emotion, learn to pause and respond with insane laughter. You will feel better and so will your family!

I think taking a few seconds for yourself is absolutely VITAL as a mom. Thankfully, my husband is easily able to tell when I’m getting stressed out, and he’s often able to diffuse the situation before there even is one. I only have one kiddo though, so I can’t imagine how life must be when you have 2, 3, or more kids! For now, I think we’re balancing the stress rather well, but these really are some awesome tips. Thanks so much for sharing! <3
